November 28 - Run, Walk, and Strength

This morning:


HR monitor crapped out partway through because clearly I am incompetent and don't know how to charge things. In other news this run was hampered by debilitating side stitches which is weird because I never get those. I hope this doesn't become a thing.

My new running clothes were super warm which is good because I HATE being cold. Unfortunately my running tights are slightly too big and in order to return them I would have to go back to Phoenix. Fortunately my boyfriend is heading back up to go to a gun show or something so maybe I can bribe him with a honeycrisp apple or something to exchange them out for me.

Today's weight post run was: 152.4, which was exactly my weight before Thanksgiving so that's cool!

* Walking:
o 0:45:02 || 1.9 mi || 24:08 min/mi (+46 pts)
Monday downtown dog walk fun time. I think we went a lot further but Nike+ says 1.86 (I think it was more like 2.15)

and then after that was STRENF CLASS
* Barbell Squat:
o 45 lb x 5 reps (+27 pts)
o 65 lb x 5 reps (+39 pts)
o 90 lb x 5 reps (+54 pts)
o 105 lb x 3 reps (+60 pts)
o 110 lb x 4 reps (+64 pts)

* Standing Barbell Shoulder Press:
o 15 lb x 5 reps (+10 pts)

I was supposed to do more like 53x3 and then 60xfail but hahaha I was not having that at all. I suck at OHP

* Boot Camp:
o 0:15:00 (+156 pts)
Circuit of 20 sec on/10 sec rest: wall balls (14lbs), sit ups, thrusters (35lbs). Then a closer of a lot of air squats.

Also today starts the:

Great Winter Weight Loss Challenge!
this is what I am calling my bet with my dad that I can be down to 145lbs prior to our Vegas trip on December 22nd. If I win I get $500 for new clothes and if I lose I get no money and massive shame.

Ketosis is hitting me pretty hard. Almost fell asleep after lunch until I took a caffeine pill and today's strenf was really really hard and then for about an hour after I was pretty sure that I was going to puke. Hopefully I adapt a little better tomorrow.

The original plan was going to be to do a Protein-Sparing Modified Fast (PSMF) and while I still am basing what I am doing on that concept I'm doing slightly higher carb (as you can see) at least for a little while because of the amount of cardio that I'm doing.

Bike to & from(?) work
Crossfit WOD which I already looked up and it's Fran so thanks bye I will be far too dead to post. I hope that my animal print spandex pants magically arrive so that I can at least fail magnificently.

Life stuff:

I set up a schedule for myself today where I do cardio in the mornings and Crossfit or Strength in the evenings/afternoons. I think I'll try to put this in effect once my job ends on the 16th of December and try to keep doing it as long as possible afterwards until I get a new job. I applied for a ton and still haven't heard anything back. It sucks.

Back From Vacation!

ey guys I am back from vacation!



I ate like a king the entire time and drank like Hemingway. I got to know members of my family that I wasn't super close with, took my 20 year old cousin to a drag show and did shots of whipped cream and cotton candy flavored vodkas, and went snorkeling in the ocean and aagh a fish touched me I don't like it.

I was only supposed to be gone Thursday - Tuesday but then I stayed an extra day with my family in Phoenix because our plane got in a lot later than I originally thought. I went to a bunch of stores out there but found no running tights that were affordable. I fell in love with a lot of stuff out of my price range, though! Here's looking at you, Lululemon.

Anyway, then I spent the whole rest of this week being lazy and not running or biking until today when I said "No seriously you can't just stop because there's only a few days between now and Thanksgiving" (where I will be going back to Phoenix to help cook/help my grandma move/eat like a king/drink a lot).

Then today I got all geared up to go on a run before work and walked by my bike and went "IT'S BIKE TIME!!!" and rode my bike for a bit. My mom gave me some of her padded bike shorts that she doesn't use anymore and they are really nice. I only almost got killed twice!! I even chose a road that didn't have a bike lane and was poorly maintained and it wasn't terrible at all (except for the bus that kept trying to pull into the side of me but that's okay).



So that ride was 5.38 miles according to Garmin. The ride to my work is approximately 5.5 miles according to mapmyrun, so it's looking like it won't be very difficult. I'm really excited! I might even try riding in on Monday. One of the roads I rode back on was the one I will be taking into work and the bike lane is HUGE and roomy and ~luxurious~ so that's a bonus.

Today's weight was 152.4 so that's not so bad especially given how much I ate on vacation.

I made a bet with my dad for a large sum of money (to be used for new clothes) that I couldn't be down to my goal weight (145) before our Christmas trip to Vegas, so I think after Thanksgiving I'm going to crash diet (PSMF) my way to financial gain. From what I've looked at in Rapid Fat Loss it's not all that different from the way I was eating on the HCG diet, but with generally more food (unlimited vegetables). I don't mind doing that again so long as I know it's not going to be for 3 months or whatever. I will probably have to scale back somewhat on my cardio or just expect to be bad at it for a while but I think that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make given the stakes.

Deload week, last five sets were speed work. Super light. Couldn't bench due to rotator cuff injury from yesterday's snatches

Time is approximate, just a night ride with my boyfriend. He ended up getting sick so we actually walked the last mile ish. This was basically the most awesome ride ever and I felt like I could go forever and I just wanted to keep riding a bicycle made of friendship into dreams.

November 9 - Run

For the first ten minutes or so of running in this morning's cold (~38 degrees) I was in my own special hell (running and cold are probably the two things I hate most in the world) but around the 15 minute mark I said "might as well keep going" and then I did. The only part of me that was consistently cold the entire time was my face and my legs, because the yoga pants they do nothing. Looking forward to purchasing some running tights.

My HR monitor ran out of battery so no data on that.



This was actually one of my slower runs, but I guess everyone has off days. I blame not eating as much pre-run. 

When I got back my post-run weight was 151.0 lbs! The carb devil will not defeat me!

Current Updates












11/08/2011 I've been doing Crossfit 2-3x/wk since about September. I've also made a newer goal to just generally increase my cardio by running or cycling 4-5x/wk. Last week I ran 3x (it was my birthday) and the week before 4x. I just got a bike and now it is all outfitted and I'd really like to work my way up to riding my bike to work one day (~6 miles each way).

- run a 5k without running or stopping (I've had this goal forever and have never quite been able to do it), OR

The backstory

So, here's my story.
In Jan/Feb of 2010 I was a landwhale. I got up to 190 lbs and was generally seriously unhappy and depressed. I refused to hang out with my friends because I was afraid that they would see me all hugeified. On the recommendation of other previously overweight family members, I went on the hcg diet. I did this from Feb 2010 - May 2010 and lost 40 lbs. My lowest weight was 150.


Then, of course, I fell back into old habits. I forgot how to cook for myself and went right back into eating out ALL THE TIME. I gradually gained weight back until I was 160 in August. That's when I started wanting to get serious about a sustainable diet and start an exercise program. I started with a program from iKillHostages, but after 2-3 months I ended up changing things around a bit, making up my own programs and then finally settling on Stumptuous' All Dumbbells All the Time workout combined with a low-carb diet. I was also doing c25k and had gotten up to I think Week 3, but then took almost a month off after Christmas/New Years. At this time I was working out in a little gym that only had dumbbells and small machines that I didn't know how to use. I was only using dumbbells at this time.

I was still pretty fat tho. Here’s a comparison photo from prior to hcg and me around that time:


2/11/11 I changed gyms and began Starting Strength and got back into doing c25k. I basically had to start c25k over completely after that month off, but since then I've been pretty good with working out & running regularly. I usually do lifting M/W/F and running T/Th/Su. Recently my fiancee and I have begun rock climbing on Thursdays too, which is a lot of fun! I feel like fitness has become a huge part of my life and making my own food instead of eating out is like second nature to me. When I track my daily food stuff I can get pretty crazy about measuring too, and that's not really much of a problem for me either. The lowest I have been within the past few months is 155 on the scale, after two weeks of obsessively tracking my weight. I've just come back from a 2 week vacation and am starting to work my way back into low carb and working out again.
